After 'drupalcamp Ghent'

If you planned to come to 'Drupalcamp Ghent' 11 december, if you registered and did not show up, without give the organistion a notice. In my opinion your are some kind of pain in the ass.

Skip the "in my humble opinion"-s.
I think so since a lot of people took effort to organise this Barcamp Ghent (no I did no nothing! I just attended) and I read the waitinglist was full. And there might be just one of them who loved to be at the place where you registered for. If you did not show up, in my opinion you harming the efforts all organisers did.

Ik had dit ook van de week al bij het event zelf gemeld:

Ik heb me van de week via de website afgemeld, maar zie nu dat ik me alsnog weer kan inschrijven. Is het niet goed verwerkt? Er was namelijk wel een grote wachtlijst, dus je zou denken dat mijn plek heel snel weer ingenomen zou worden.

Je hebt daar wel een punt Roel. Ikzelf was één van die 'pain in the asses' die niet zijn komen opdagen. Bij deze mijn excuses aan alle organisatoren. Het is inderdaad een blijk van respect om op voorhand iets te laten weten als je niet komt, en zeker in een community als drupal waar veel rond vrijwillig initiatief draait. Nu, ikzelf kon, door een wijziging in mijn planning op donderdag, niet meer komen. Wat ik wel las is dat alle mensen op de wachtlijst toch nog mochten komen... Ik doe nog een donatie om eventueel de organisatie uit de kosten te helpen.

Ik plan binnenkort een codesprint voor de vriendenkring van een geuzebrouwerij. Jullie zijn welkom voor de pint, en ook wel om wat te helpen bouwen ;)

Hi, indeed you have good point. More or less is the same thing that happened to us in Crema(near Milan, Italy and yes, we organized a drupalcamp the same day :D): we were waiting the 200 registered people(ok perhaps let's say 10% less) and 130 came. We prepared pens, t-shirts, pins, food for all that people and just a bit more than the half was there. It was a great day anyway, but personally(since I was in the staff) I found it quite disappointing. I fear that the only solution to this problem is to make people pay for subscribing to the event. Just clicking on a button is too easy you know, brain cannot get connected that quickly.

About the paying...
Could it be an solution to keep costs low...
In my opinion it is extremely important to try to have new people into Drupal-communities.
Easy entrance, with low entrance barriers, I find a good goal.
Concentrate on improving coordination, more than increase planning?

Well, I don't know how did it go there in Ghent, but I think it was fine :) Our DC was fine too, people was happy and a lot of knowledge and connections were exchanged that day. The problem is that 40-50% didn't get it seriously and subscribed just for fun. That's something you can't solve with coordination nor planning: make them pay and they'll think about it: even 20 euros, a really low fare, could solve this planning problems.
On the budget side, that fare could be useful in order not to be too sponsors-dependent, but in our case money wasn't a problem since we had 4 sponsors and they covered all the expenses well.

Roel,
ik was ook een 'pain in the ass', volgens jou dan toch. Ik heb er alles aan gedaan, maar kreeg mijn werk niet af. Enkele dagen voor de start heb ik ook uitgevinkt in mijn profiel waarins ton dat ik zou komen. 20 euro had mij niet doen afkomen en ik dacht niet dat jullie zaten te wachten op een mailtje van mij hierover. Foute inschatting?

Ik vind mijzelf ook regelmatig een "pain in the ass".

En ik streef naar een heldere community.
Voor de helderheid, ik heb niets gedaan aan Drupalcamp Ghent. Ik was pure bezoeker.

En ik doe niet veel in de community.
Ik probeer "een ding goed te doen".
En dat krijg ik ook niet snel af
Mag ik een voorbeeld geven? Zéér zwaar 'under construction': www.gera.be.
Die zonneverwarming weet ik niet eens of het gaat werken.
En op informatica-gebied doe ik alleen super standaard zaken.
Bijvoorbeeld Garland als theme, alleen stabiele modules.
Maatwerk: nul.
Dat is voor mij een succesfactor om een informatiesysteem efficient en effectief te laten werken.

Velen zullen het herkennen: we hebben snel onze dag gevuld!

Ik "pain in the ass"?
Vind ik wel: ik neem nu pas de rust om te zien dat er een knopje "Beantwoorden" staat onder de reacties op mijn eerste posting.
